• Fire starters. Pour your used wax into a jar and dip the end of a piece of cotton string into it. Wrap the other end of the string around a pencil so that the pencil rests across the top of the jar to hold the string in place. Continue to add used wax until the jar is nearly full. Once it hardens, cut the cotton string so that it is 1/8 of an inch above the wax and light it to enjoy a new candle.
• Kindling starters. Make it easier for you to start your fireplace, and add a touch of fragrance, using recycled cardboard egg cartons, dryer lint, and your wax. Once you remove the dryer lint from the lint trap, stuff it into the wells of the carton. Pour the melted wax over the lint until the wells are full. Allow them to harden. When you need them, cut the wells apart and use one or two to help start and maintain the fire.
• Release sticky keys. If your parents’ keys are sticking in their door, you can use wax to loosen them up. Break up the wax and use a piece to rub either side of the key to lubricate it and smooth any irregularities that may make it difficult to use.
