Senior Care near Carmichael, CA – Tips for Cleaning a Kitchen
Who doesn’t like a sparkling, clean kitchen? Most people do but sometimes it’s hard to know what products are right for the clean-up job in your kitchen. Many people don’t want to use harsh chemicals where food is served and they would like something more natural. Or, sometimes you just aren’t sure what to use on a particular counter stain or stubborn grease on a pot. While caring for your senior parent, you should pay attention to how clean their kitchen is. Here are some tips to help you tackle your senior’s kitchen cleaning:
- The microwave seems to get dirty fast. One quick way to clean it is to put a handful of wet paper towels inside and then turn it on for a few minutes. The moisture helps soften the caked-on food. Use the towels to wipe out the microwave. You can also microwave a bowl of water and fresh lemons for a similar effect.
- Cleaning cast-iron pots can be tough but a dash of salt may do the trick. Rub a few tablespoons of salt in the pot with a paper towel and then rinse. Make sure you also keep seasoning the pot regularly so your food doesn’t stick.
- Your senior’s garbage disposal will smell fresh by grinding ice cubes made out of half water and half vinegar.
- Baking soda can be used for a multitude of things. It works great to clean stainless steel sinks. If you use an old toothbrush to scrub the baking soda into the sink, it will sparkle once you rinse it. You can also use baking soda and water to clean the inside of your elderly loved one’s refrigerator and oven.
- If you enjoy making smoothies for your mom or dad but hate the clean-up, try this – once you’re done making a smoothie, fill the blender with soap and water, then blend it for a few minutes and rinse with warm water.
Other Ways to Ensure Kitchen Cleanliness
Before you make the next cup of Joe, make sure your coffee pot is clean. Add 1 part water and 1 part vinegar to the coffee maker and then run it through a cycle. Afterwards, run the cycle again with plain water. To clean the glass coffeemaker pot, fill it partially with ice cubes, 2 tablespoons of salt and a cut up lemon, then swirl the mixture for about 2 minutes and rinse with water.
Seniors may not be able to do many of these things if they have lessened mobility, arthritis or other conditions. If they need more help with cleaning their home or any other tasks of daily living, you can hire a senior care services to give them some assistance.
