Home Care in Roseville CA
Many people take a day or two in the Spring and spend it doing some “spring cleaning” around the home, but did you know that there is actually a week dedicated to cleaning every Spring? The week of March 27th through April 1st is National Cleaning Week, a week to get the home clean, fresh, and ready for spring. If you are caring for an elderly adult, chances are you already spend a significant amount of time helping them keep their home clean and tidy. However, National Cleaning Week is a good time to tackle some of the larger cleaning projects that get put off all winter long. Here are just a few ideas:
Clean Walls and Ceilings
This week is definitely a week to take the phrase “wall to wall cleaning” literally. First, use a vacuum to remove the dust from ceilings, walls, and baseboards. Next, take a gentle cloth with a gentle degreaser and wipe the surfaces clean. Be sure to test any cleaner on an inconspicuous part of the wall first, as some cleaners can do damage to certain types of surfaces.
Organize the Closets
For many, stashing unused items in the closet is a bad habit that can result in messy, unorganized, and very full closets. Use this week to help your loved one go through the items in the closets in their home. If you can, donate unneeded items to free up some space. Then, work together with your loved one to create a system for organization. You may want to use labels, color-coding, bins/tubs, and other tools to help you.
Clean the Rugs and Carpets
Now that the weather is a bit warmer, it is the perfect time to take rugs outside and shake out the dust and dirt. For large rugs and carpeting, vacuum them and then consider giving them a deep clean with a steam cleaner or wet vacuum. Carpets can trap dust, dirt, and allergens, so this is a great project to do for a loved one who suffers from allergies or asthma.
Scrub Grout in the Bathroom
Mold spores can be unhealthy to breathe in, but the unfortunate truth is that the bathroom is a very ideal place for mold to flourish. Take some time during National Cleaning Week to scrub clean the grout in your loved one’s shower and other areas of the bathroom where mold collects.
